Iowa Supreme Court today issued an opinion taking up 60+ pages in which they found that the Iowa constitution prohibited a law banning gay marriage. That law will be stricken in 21 days.
Unlike California (where you can amend your state constitution by 50.0000000001% vote in a referendum), Iowa requires that two different legislative bodies (elected every two years) vote on and approve constitional amendments.
So, wanna be a gay couple? Move to Iowa.
This, of course, makes for a very difficult decision for many gays. Die or move to Iowa? Don't get married or move to Iowa? Imagine how much better women's softball teams will become. Imagine how much better dressed men on the street of Dubuque will become.
Truly the Field of Dreams.
"Pass the lube, honey, we are entering Iowa."
