Well, in that case, I guess I don't like basketball. Then again, if I didn't like basketball, it would stand to reason that I wouldn't be watching the NBA playoffs this year. But, I am watching games this year. Why?
The reason is simple. It is good television, pitting a presumptive favorite, led by James, against an aging underdog. You've, thus, got good, natural tension on display for the viewer. Viewers who watch the Heat matchup can root against the presumptive favorite -- just as casual viewers do in connection with most sporting events.
Similarly, the viewer can watch the Thunder/Spurs series to root against the preening jackhole, James Harden.
Ultimately, this makes for entertaining television regardless of the merits of these players' respective games, and I'm watching more basketball than I ever have.
Consider this statement: "If you don't like Jim Brown, you do not like football."
This is a ridiculous statement. Jim Brown has rubbed many people the wrong way over the years, and many people dislike him for that reason. This doesn't mean that such individuals hate football.
2008 -- time for a new profile.
Summary: 1964-1966 -- Urbana, Illinois.
1966-1982 -- small town in western NY; football QB, baseball center fielder, 6th man on the basketball team (OK, I am not real proud of that).
1986-1989 -- Durham, NC law school watching the greatest college basketball program of all-time (OK, so I am biased).
1988 summer -- Minneapolis, MN -- bunch of really hot blonde girls walk around a lake and encourage me to come back to MN
1989-Present -- MN (couldn't resist)
Loves -- hoops, American Idol, politics, general trashy pop culture.
Aspirations -- to some day match up with my driver's license weight; to have someone some day say to me, "You don't look that old."
Status -- wife, 3 kids, middle-aged and wide bodied.
Enjoy my Blog.......or just get the hell out.
